Get ready to lose NFL and NASCAR on TV(Directv)

I am sure some of you have seen this if you have Directv , FOX and Directv are fighting right now over the cost of carrying all the FOX network channels. If an agreement can not be made may NOV 1st, Directv pulls the plug on a lot of channels, SPEED and some local FOX Stations included. I am in the market that would lose its local fox station. So in those markets it means no NFL on Fox as well.

I don't think they can legally pull the plug on your local Fox station. It's one of the five or six basic stations that you get for free.

The only channels I would hate to lose is FX and SPEED, seriously, that's two of the handful of stations I watch religiously.

No, please God no. If they do this, we'll switch to Dish Network. We are already thinking about it anyway.

Didn't they just do this last year?

And People still have Satellite? It sucks for Internet & it sucks for TV too, Cable is the way to go.

Everybody has DirecTV? I have Dish. (dangit) Though, Dish isn't a bad option. You get the practice session, qualifying and race, as well as 4-6 football games.

Though, DirecTV's still a ton better

I think ABC did it last year during the Oscars, not sure about FOX though they might've threatened it.

No they can pull local channels. Uverse had a contract dispute with CBS and it was saved in the 11th hour.

You realize not everybody can get cable? We'd love to get cable, but it doesn't run as far out in the county as we are. Satellite & dial-up is our only option....

I remember the days of dial up and thinking how cool it was to view porn. I can't imagine going back and trying to use dial up. (just joking about the porn that's a sin)

Dishtv, and a few cable companies just went through all of this last year. Pist me off because they had dropped the foxsports channel and wasnt able to watch the last week or 2 of baseball. We nearly switched to Directtv but waited it out and I almost felt that This would happen to Directtv as well.

This is a Fox problem of wanting more money. In one way you cant fault them because they are some of the most watched stations on tv. But on the other hand Its not a great time to be raising prices. It will always be the customer that pays for the increase.

I say if you like Directtv then stick with them and even if the channels get pulled, the 2 companies will come to an agreement in the end. You might have to sit through a few commercials of each side blaming the other. But evenbtually one will cave and its almost always the cable/satelite providers.

Where we live cable is not an option, but I think it will be soon, but that's not a better choice either , not to many like cox cable out here. I know this happens all the time, but this time I care because the chance of losing SPEEDtv. We went from Dish to Directv, so there is no going back.

To be honest I am not sure which side I want to believe, both are blaming each other, but I think it is FOX wanting to up the fee's, and yes I understand why, but now is not the best time to do that.

My college has DirecTv is some buildings (thankfully not my dorm) and it sucks. We lost service during the Carolina-Jacksonville game (I live in Charlotte) because of the rain, and we didn't even get the hard rain. Then I was in there the other day and it got a SUN OUTAGE!?!? Really??? The sun interfered with the signal.

The Sun Outages were affecting everybody even those with cable. Basically it's like two times a year (February & October) for a week or so the sun emits so much radiation at certain points that it basically overrides the wavelength of the satellite feed.

^^^^Me too!!!! I (well....my grandpa) was a DTV customer since like the late 90's, and IMO it is the best TV...or maybe just satellite....provider if you're a sports fan. I do NOT want to lose SPEED. I've lost Versus (although I think we got it back) and G4, but SPEED I think will be it for me.

Hmm, I never had that happen before (or at least noticed it). I still prefer cable, lol.

What is making think that Directv is behind this is my market (Phoenix), there are two other local channels we will lose on Nov 1st as well if an agreement is not made. So if all it happens, will we lose four local channels ( three independents and fox). One of the locals that we will lose is tied in with our fox station so that's a two for one there.

If this does happen I think it will be a bad thing for the SPEED channel, since DTV is the biggest satellite provider, and with a lot of cable company's either not offering speed, or making it an higher tier or al la cart channel. That wont be good it, you figure that the number of house holds its viewed in is going to drop dramatically

    TV Land
    History
    Cartoon Network
    E!
    Turner Classic Movies
    HGTV

    Animal Planet
    Tru TV

PCN (State run cable channel, they show the German channel DW-TV overnight)
    NFL Network
    Gameshow Network
    OWN (Oprah Network)
    Versus
Univision (the National one not a regional version)
    SPEED
    Hallmark
    Lifetime Movie Network
    Zap2It Program Guide Channel
    CSPAN

All for $59 a month..... Not sure if that's expensive or cheap but I do know I get a ton of channels on my Basic cable that most people have to buy various tiers for. And I actually used to have 3 FOX stations (Scranton, NYC & Philly) till the Scranton one through a hissy-fit (after it being that way for more then 15 years) and got the other two taken off because the Scranton one is the local one.

$59/month is a good price, at least for that many channels.
