I've heard recently that you can get a demo of NR2003 for free. Is this right? If so...

Yes it's free and legal. The download is only around 120 mb. It comes with Talladega and Michigan.

Personally I use the number keys for driving. (The keys on the right side of your keyboard though)
Driving
Accelerate - 8
Brake - 5
Turn Left - 4
Turn Right - 6
Gears
1st - Z
2nd - X
3rd - C
4th - B (Can't use V for some reason)
Just kind of test some things out and find one you like.

Why get the free demo? You can get the full game for free by torrents. Yeah, it's illegal, but it's a free game, haha.
