Seeing as though the official unveiling of New Racer, when we finally have a proper name too, is almost upon us I decided to update my GUI project and add some more to it.

Hi Scuderia Paul, Im Gaz the lead designer on Supercar Challenge and the next Eutechnyx racing game. I work very closely with the design, layout and production of all our interfaces, menus, results tables and so forth in our racing games. I was very impressed with your interface designs - a very crisp, clinical approach which i like and good eye for colours and fonts that work well together. You've also shown a good understanding of functionality - with the inclusion of elements players would expect or like to be able to see and do on each interface.
Good stuff!

Thank you so much for your great feedback I really appreciate it. I have always had a huge interest in graphic-design and that coupled with my love for Eutechnyx racing games made it just seem a perfect project to undertake.
I have some others in the pipeline as well as box-art templates, 3D and sleeve, just waiting for the unveiling of the game itself.

Here is my latest addition - A colour wheel which would allow us to have any colour we wish so copying real-life liveries would be more accurate.

Very nice Paul, I think we may already be on the same lines as far as including colour wheels in future Eutechnyx games
in favour of colour grids.
As far as interface design on the whole goes - particularly for games, one thing we always have to bare in mind is foreign transalations, it may be of some interest to you if you are interested in game interfaces. Its one of the more important things especially when we release our games in several countries. As a developer and designer we just have to bear in mind that some languages can be a nightmare when it comes to interface layout, and one line of text in english can become two or 3 in other languages. There are always a few tricks to get around this though, such as scaling fonts for lines of text that end up much longer in another language.
I also like the ability to be able to input your own RGB values in your design... Something NFS Shift was lacking.

Thank you for the feedback Gaz.
I was only thinking that when I showed some of these to a French friend and happened to ask what a particular thing was in French and thought to myself it would never fit! Thankfully that is something I did not have to worry about but I can see the difficulty in what you say.
That is confirmation that a colour wheel will be in New Racer (Please unveil the game I am fed up calling it this and people are probably tired of me doing so) and hopefully you include an option to store custom colours like the ModNation Racers beta while keeping the Manufacturer palette from Ferrari Challenge and Supercar Challenge.
We are on the same lines regarding the colour wheel but are we on the same lines when it comes to including the Maserati MC12 GT1 too? My hinting about this incredible and legendary car is about as subtle as a sledgehammer.

Shift lacks so much in terms of livery design that the whole system is border line useless, but that's for another thread on another forum.

Here is a new GUI screen I have done. It is of an online lobby so let me know what you think.
As you can see I have included a text option for those without a headset as communication is awkward otherwise.

Hi Paul, this looks pretty good, I can see the Supercars influence there and I like the text chat option too. The headset icons and lights for ready / not ready are cool.

Finally after much delay I have another GUI image. I decided on a race results classification listing which would of course be used for qualifying too. Next, I hope to finish box-arts for New Racer and New Licensed Racer.
Let me know what you think - Feedback is always good!

For my latest piece I have decided to put a slightly different spin on the GUI for the Vinyl Editor in New Racer by having all the important elements present on-screen so as to limit menu navigation. Let me know what you think - Be it good or bad... but not too bad.

Here is a Replay Theatre which would be an ideal place to view, edit and share our saved replays. From here we could export to our HDD or upload directly to YouTube. There is also a Community link to the profiles of friends where we can watch, rate and download their videos and the ability to filter and view global offerings.

This is my latest image, which as you can see, is of an in-car HUD. I have included the information required by the confirmed new features for New Racer such as tyre wear and a fuel gauge. Since tyre wear is in we will also have pit-stops so refuelling it bound to feature too. I have also colour coded the positions immediately in-front of and behind the player position whilst also giving the gap to the race leader.

The use of outline fonts makes the display looks cluttered, harder to read than monochromatic and also might not translate (at that relative size) to a SD screen. The colour coding is a nice idea but perhaps the whole line (position and gap or a semi-transparent background bar) should be in the colour. Additionally, it's not immediately obvious what the colour coding means. Perhaps the position indicator should be in the list and in the main UI colour (ie, the list reads 1,5 and 6 in red, POS 7/16 in white, 8 and 9 in green; and the big POS at the top removed and only your pos in the list has POS next to it).
Interesting, keep it up.

Thanks for the feedback Slimm I appreciate it. I like the idea of putting the players position in the correct place in the list and I will try the semi-transparent tab suggestion too. I still think the outline is a good idea on black text, although a lighter outline could help regarding SD displays, as black text can get lost against the sometimes very dark a-pillars with an interior view whilst white text can be difficult against clouds through the windscreen. For external views a plain font would suffice as those issues would be irrelevant.
I make all images in 1920 x 1080 then downsize for here and always test clarity on my tv but I will make all the modifications you have suggested. I will send it to your PSN ID to check it out.
Thanks again for the feedback.

Here is an updated in-car GUI image with an improved car information model with higher detailed and easier to read icons.
